Hope someone can help me, I have just brought a Cox International 0.049 engine (first time using a IC engine in any type of RC model). Now there web site says to use a fuel mix off 25% Nitromethane, 20% Castor Oil and 55% Methanol. They also say it is best not to use synthetic oil as it can shorten the life of the engine.

My question is is this correct, and is there a synthetic oil that will work for most if not all IC engines or should I test and make up a fuel mix each IC engine I use?

I dont know what is available in your area but a mix of castor and synthetic should work fine if the oil percentage is simply high enough, Cox engines were intended to be run on about 25% lube but I think you can get away with 20% lube. SIG sells fuels with the proper lube percentages even all castor fuels with the proper 25% lube percentage.

Thanks for that, looks like I may have to get the fuel from somewhere else a I can't seem to find any where here in Christchurch that sells fuel mixes or the individual components. Properly going to cost a small fortune to do it to as they most likely would be considered hazardous materials.
