This thread is for anyone who has successfully converted an aircraft that was intended for glow to electric.

Please include details of motor, batteries, ESC, props and flight times. Max amps and any E-Meter data appreciated.

Hopefully we can build a meaningful library here for people to refer

Thanks in advance :geek:

Currently in the process of assembling an Extreme Flight 40% Extra. Dreamt for a long time to fly a model of this size. I've been flying 50cc conversions on a Hacker A80-10/170A ESC for a couple of years so this is a step up. Will report back on static testing in 2 to 3 weeks time.

Plettenberg 37/6 Predator,
Schulze 300A ESC,
3 blade 22x12 prop,
14S11600 lipo,

p.s. quick hello to Bruce...so good to see someone start an RC channel that cuts through the BS and scientifically evaluates products. Thanks for you efforts and keep it up. Several of us from Fleet in the UK have subscribed. ;)

Wow... that's one big electric!

How do prices for motors/batteries compare to IC engines when you get to that size of model?

And how do you recharge batteries with that amount of capacity? Do you even bother to field-charge them or do you limit yourself to a few flights per day?

I haven't compared the price Bruce but I don't doubt its more expensive. I don't have an option though. At my main flying field we are limited to 82db for IC powered models. Electric models are not noise tested but as this is large so I did run it past the club committee before starting the project.

Regarding field charging. No. Not at the moment but I'll probably buy a Digital Inverter/Generator in the near future but I would also need a couple more chargers. I only have one set of lipo packs at the mo. The 30C Flightmax 6S5800 and 2S5800 packs.

Very nice -- it sure rips that prop at hi-throttle. Do you have your own nuclear power station for recharging?

What size prop are you using by the way, it looks quite small.

wow, very nice. Never knew that one can electricify such a big plane.
Btw, why is the elevator up on taxing? I've seen this b4 only on large models and always wonder why.

Compulsive pre-maiden control surface checking and shaky knees. ;) All stuff that makes this hobby great. :)

Very nice model, and great flight! I will certainly be following this thread.
What are fully aerobatic flight regime times like?
What are your charge times like?
I am thinking of electrifying a 60 size GP Super Skybolt bipe. My largest motors will swing around a 12" prop, and I am concerned about the lighter weight in the nose.
