Turnigy 9xr Battery

Postby ausiejohn » Thu Jan 24, 2013 10:36 am

I have just received delivery of a 9xr transmitter, I am unsure what to do about a tx battery. The information with the unit suggests a new special LIPO battery specifically for the 9xr, I have read so much negativity about using Lipo in tx. I thought using aLife battery would be the safer alternative, can anyone enlighten me please. The battery is connected via the balance plug and the literature suggests the LIPO is wired in a special way, and other tx batteries should not be used.

You'll be better off with this pack

Since the new TX uses the open source software (unacknowledged) you will be able to set the low voltage alarm accordingly.
I've been using two packs in my transmitters for 9 months or so and they are very good, you have to charge them on the li-fe setting like the one on the:

I'm a fan of Zippy batteries, I use http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... ouse_.html
in my FlySky TH9X, my low voltage alarm is set for 9.0v even though the nominal is 9.9v, full charge shows 10.2v.
I have only charged the battery once in 3 months, maybe 5 hours operating time allup and showing 9.4v.
I charge using my Accucell 6 by adjusting the cell voltage to 3.3v the charger then recognises the battery as LiFe, Bruce has a vid on this charger for LifePO4 use.
The 9xr allows connection via the balance lead however I would check the polarity connection of any lead being used, if this is like other 9x units reversing polarity is a unit destroyer. That is probably why they recommend not using other LiPo/LiFe packs.

Ok I go along with Dennis on this, the battery he recommends has a greater capacity therefore will be better,
the reason I used the other is that it was available from the UK warehouse, but it's lasted for months without a recharge anyway on the FrSky system (which uses less current than the Turnigy module).
The manual also covers the charging process but Bruces video shows you how to do it for the first time.

Good Day Bill and Dennis
Thanks for the advice I will go with the LIFE battery probably the 1800mah when back in stock in Aust W/house. There are too many options in this game it gets a little difficult to follow the correct path at times. Years ago I built my first RC system the RCM&E Digital Proportional radio on 27 band I wish I had kept up to date I have been absent from the hobby for about 25 years things have changed a lot still it keeps Grey Nomads thinking.

Bruce has released part 1 vid of the 9Xr http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SWYW2QYKrL4

I would urge that you check the polarity of the Tx connections before connecting the battery, at our age not doing simple things like that make grown men cry:lol:

Cheer Dennis
