Up Grade Receiver Antenna

I am building a couple of new 2 meter gliders for competition. Our competition requires the glider to have only 2 functions rudder and elevator, as we are restricted to 2 channels I only have need for a smaller receiver. Having used a Turnigy 9X transmitter for the last few years I would like to keep using the 9X system.

I found that the HobbyKing GT-2 2.4Ghz 3 channel receiver works great with the 9X transmitter, as it is a car receiver it's only good for close in flying, it's half the size of the Hobby King 2.4Ghz Receiver 6Ch V2 great size for a small size glider.

My question is: can I fit the tubular dipole antenna off the 9X or HK 6Ch V2 receivers to the GT-2 3Ch receiver? and, will it increase reception so I can use it at a greater distance. Lastly, where can I find a supply of tuned 2.4Ghz tubular Dipole antennas?

Hey Dave,
This six channel receiver is compatible and is small and light full range and has the aerial you want at less than ten dollars, probably better than messing with aerial adaptations

Hi Bill,
I have always been going to try the 6Ch, removing the case, replacing the straight pins with 3 sets of pins just for rudder, elevator and battery turned 90 degrees (I understand HK sell these), shorten the pins for the bind plug and then encase the whole thing in heat shrink tube. This will fit better, but, the GT-2 prepared the same way will be even smaller. I use a 5 cell AAA receiver battery for a number of reasons, weight needed up front, the higher voltage and small size. Space is at a premium in these new gliders, that's why I will be trying the 6Ch setup this way and would like the option of the 3Ch GT-2 if needed.

Hi Dave,

Have you considered converting to FrSky or (cheaper) purchase a 9Xr with FrSky module then use one of these brilliant 4ch Rx at 6g

Diversity antennas and RSSI.

I have I think something like 6 of the HK V2 6 channel receivers, 2 of the 9X Receivers and 5 of the GT-2 receivers. I don't want to change, it's not the cost but the reliability, I can't fault the system. In fact I am thinking getting the Taranis and fitting the 9X module so I can use all the 9X gear I have.
I have arriving tomorrow a supply of 90 degree pin headers, so I will be converting one of my HK V2 6 channel, hopefully turning the pins the 90 degrees will make the required room in my new glider's pod.
