Well, switching the transmiter off simulates loss of signal perfectly. Switching it on again is not a good simulation of signal reappering. This may work with many 35MHz systems, but is very unreliable with Spektrum. When powering up a DSM2 system the transmitter will try to select two idle channels. This may or may not be the same as the ones it used before. If at least one of them is the same, you may regain control. Otherwise....
Actually, almost any transmitter will take some time to boot up at power up. During that time you can not rely on any communication.
Note that this is by design and not a weakness of the system. You aren't supposed to switch off the transmitter while it is in use.
