In your opinion... Which TX/RX would you buy?

Postby RCMikeofIndiana » Sun Feb 13, 2011 1:25 pm

I am currently an owner of a Spektrum DX6i with a 1/2 dozen planes with Spektrum receivers in them. I have never had a problem with any of them. But due to the limitations of the DX6i (not enough channels and programming) I am looking at all options for the next few planes I want to build. Some 3D. Some warbirds. Some of these builds looks like they will either need more channels or a larger aray of programming options that the DX6i does not offer. I figured that I would either stay with the Spektrum that I have now and see what reviews come in for the DSM-X or leave the current flock with my Spektrum and go with Futaba or what ever else best fits my needs for my future planes.

Well, if you're happy with spektrum there's the dx-8, (forget about the jr 9503 cause the dx8 has more to offer for less).
If you see a need to change brands, there's the Aurora 9, Airtronics Sd-10g, Futaba 8fg. If I were you, I'd stick with spektrum now that they have dsmx.

Wait for Bruce's up coming "shoot out". Then make a decision.

Well after careful consideration i personally wound up with a Futaba FF9 with a FRsky Two way system. Works like a charm :)
However having said that we are all different and ultimately it turns out to be a matter of how the thing feels.

Every time I read about the "shootout" I picture the transmitters hitching up their little gun belts and stepping out of the saloon to settle things once and for all.

At 2.4 GHz some of their reflexes must be pretty fasst too. ;-)

(OK, groan)
What goes up...better bloody stay up (until I say otherwise).

Purely because you have 1/2 dozen spektrum RX's in aircraft now I would say the DX8..

Its is a beautiful radio, I have two of them.. they feel fabulous to fly with.

The early batches had a few issues and my first one had to go back for the gimbal issue, but now is perfect..

The 2nd one was a recent build 05/11 and is perfect out of the box..

Not considering the RXs you already have, the Futaba 8FG is also a fantastic radio..

here is my side by side comparison of the two..
