Hitec Aurora 9 deadzone fix

As I predicted in this article, the fix for the Hitec Aurora's "dead zone" problem is the addition of a low-value resistor to one end of the pots in the affected stick units.

Because each radio will be different and thus require a slightly different resistor value, Hitec are reportedly using variable resistors to "trim out" the deadzone.

As I also stated in the article, the problem would not have been as likely if they'd opted to use a 11-bit or 12-bit ADC so as to allow plenty of tolerance either side of the maximum stick movement for slight variances in stick units.

If I were fixing one of my own radios, I would not use a variable resistor, I would use a fixed-value one (of a suitable value) and use heat-shrink to ensure that there was no strain on the wiring.

Some of those who have had their deadzone fixed by Hitec claim that the new trim-pots are not well supported from a mechanical perspective -- but it remains to be seen if this causes an issue over time.

Now, do you want to hear how Spektrum/JR could fix the seemingly growing number of crashes related to their RC systems?
