A wave of fake Spektrum products about to appear?

Problems, experiences or just something to say about RC gear? Say it here.

Oh... btw, is RC Models Review planning to examine the ESC, BEC, SBEC, UBEC side of things any time soon?

Would this (viewforum.php?f=56) be a good place for forum suggestions?

Back on topic:
I think availability of compatible (not fake) 3. party products is good for the market. There are piles of examples of markets developing quicker when clones and/or 3. party products appear on the scene. Personally I would be more inclined to invest in a system where there are multiple suppliers. Even if I buy mostly or only products from the original manufacturer I gain:
- There are more people and shops around that is familiar with the system
- There is more incentive to create add-on services and products
- There is a larger second hand market if I want to buy or sell
- Competition regulates prices and drives innovation
- Lending or borrowing equipment is easier.
- The risk of my system becoming obsolete is less. If the original manufacturer decides to suspend production and/or support there are other suppliers ready to step in

Lack of standards is one of several reasons I have been hesitant to move to 2.4GHz. DSM2 is the closest thing to a standard so far. With multiple sources of DSM2 products we may get a de-facto standard.

On the other hand, if it is true that FASST compatible receivers are about to enter the market then that could be a big boost to the FASST system.

Of course, there are drawbacks too. Standards can stifle innovation also. A system that is better but incompatible will have a hard time penetrating the market.

I am looking forward to see the development.

Horizon Hobby UK does not feel well about this.

FYI: http://www.horizonhobby.co.uk/aeroonline/knews/karticles/k39_spektrum_couterfeit/k39_counterfeit.html

Horizon Hobby and our Spektrum team have not certified or authorised any other company’s claim of compatibility

Back in the '60s Doug Spreng developed the "pulse width matching servo" and a transmission system to use it. To this day all analog servos are a clone of his servo. All transmission systems do nothing but deliver a pulse to that servo. So why the big fuss now, 50 years later?

That's a bit rich considering they make compatible modules to fit into Futaba and Hitec transmitters.

Did anyone really expect them to "certify" or "authorise" another company's compatible receivers?

Well my new cheap spektrum rx turned up and look like very good copies of the real thing,

On close inspection I found the case is about 1.5mm wider
Printing on front is not in the centre
Different font size
The word parkflyer has been added
Brown out led hole is larger
Different wire for antena
Pins stick out further
V 1.6 is printed on not small sticker

Next up will have to see if it works
