Turnigy 9x V2 LCD Screen Replacement

Postby shark92976 » Sun May 22, 2011 9:46 pm

Hello,

I received a Turnigy 9x V2 transmitter from hobbyking and it has 2 dead rows in the LCD screen. I've tried refitting the connector into the plug, and it seems that it's a faulty LCD. Anyone know where I can get a replacement screen, preferably with a back light? It's still functional but it's annoying when I look at it. Links of places to buy would be fantastic!

Thanks
John

I did have a supplier for these LCDs but they seem to have disappeared. I'll check and see what I can turn up.

They are electrically the equivalent of the more normal 128x64 LCD panel but most of the standard panels have a much larger PCB that makes fitting them to the 9X a difficult task. Stay tuned.

This one has a backlight i believe, but is this something that would work?

it seems very close dimensionally but i'm wondering about the ribbon cable plugging into the turnigy circuit board.

It appears without having taken the LCD out and actually counting the number of pins coming out of the lcd. It appears from a reference image that I have that it is a 30 pin connector. I've also found that in the V2 transmitters that the LCD is 3.3volts instead of 5volts. Are the 30 pin connectors pretty much standard? as far as pin wiring? The attached pic is a display that I found with a backlight installed, that runs on 3.3volts, and has a 30 pin connector. I just don't know much about electronics to know if the pins varies.

There has be a large rash of bad displays or displays that have lost lines on them after a bit of use.

If RCModelReviews can source a replacement screen that works with no electrical and little or no modification for fit they would become quite the hero!

Personally I as well are looking for another screen as well but do not want to spend money on a screen unless I know for sure it will fit...

Can anyone tell me if the Stock LCD uses a ST7565R or ST7565R-G controller? The pin layouts are slightly different.

I also have dead pixels on my screen. Is it the LCD, the ribbon cable or the connection to the circuit board? How would I check? And, how is the search for replacement LCDs progressing?

I see you installed the backlight, were you careful not to disturb the ribbon cable going into the main board? You could unplug the ribbon cable and reseat it first. If that doesn't work, you may have gotten a bad one. I haven't been able to find a replacement LCD with the exact same pin configuration. There are a few guy on a different forum working on it as well.

How does the ribbon cable connect to the circuit board? Does the ribbon just pull out of the connector or is there a connector with pins on the end of the cable that plugs into the circuit board? I'm nervous about pulling things apart without knowing how they work.

Thanks

I'm just wondering if anyone was able to resolve this issue? My friend just purchased 2 9x Radios from HK Australia and one has two lines of Dead Pixels. He's already contacted hobby king about, but who knows what they'll come up with
