Yes, I have both devices and will build a version with each to see which works out best in practice.

Although the SCP1000 is an end-of-life product, there are probably sufficient stocks to meet the needs of RC fliers for a while, although the small size and much easier reflow requirements of the BMP085 make it very attractive.

On the subject of which miniature GPS module to use and what flexibility might be required in the airborne hub, some of us might be using the EM-406A type of module that powers up supporting 4800 baud and can't shorten its NEMA sentence structure while others might be using one of the newer modules that may start up at other baud rates and are programmable to move to other baud rates. These may also support shortening of the NEMA structure, under software command, like you want to achieve. Your shortening in the hub seems to be the right answer but you may need to support a lower baud rate as well (eliminating the chance of going with a faster sampling rate ... 10Hz for instance) to allow those of us with the older, simpler units to operate. There is also a variety of supply voltage requirements out there, as are undoubtedly aware. These might be 5V or 3.3V or even lower with some of the units. It seems with all these variables you, Bruce, might have to cut through the middle of the weeds and just pick one standard for us to follow! Any thoughts of this myriad of options?

The new barometric sensors turned up today (woohoo!) so I'll be full time on this for the next couple of days.

As for GPS -- the basic code is written for the little 10Hz GPS device I've got here but since the source will be published I'll include conditionals that will allow anyone to recompile for their own baud rate and NMEA configuration.

To be honest however, these little GPS units are under US$30 so I can't see why anyone would want to use one of the older, heavier, slower units -- unless you've already got one laying around.

Yep, pretty close -- but when you release your code for all to see, copy, use and modify, sometimes you have to tidy it up a bit ;-) Also, the code for the new barometric sensors needs to be properly tested.

Hi guys,

I was checking the FRSKY system and am now interested in installing it in an older model futaba trensmitter, the FC 16.

I have a few questions now and would really appreciate it if you could help me anwser then.
1. Do the hack modules have 2way (telemetry) option and which one (a link if possible)
2. Do I still need to use a diode to lower the voltage to the hack module (if not I am looking for a link to the module that does not need it).
3. Do the non telemetry receivers work with the telemetry transmitter module.

If any of you are interested in a similar modification, please let me know so I will post some photos.

1) No , at the moment Im writing there is no 2way (telemetry) hack module , only the ones for futaba tx and JR tx.
2) All the new "normal" hack modules (non telemetry) have allready installed the diode.
3) Yes the "normal" non telemetry receivers work with the telemetry tx modules , you must change a switch at the back of the module to do so.

PD: If you REALY need a 2 way for your FC 16 and have some soldering/electronics skill you can always hack a Frsky futaba tx 2 way module .

b) Internal hack ,more dificult because you have to uncase and separate the 2 boards of the tx module

Note that in both cases you must install the diode as this module do not have it internaly , and of course you will loose the warranty over
the tx module .

Bruce,

I'm trying to be ready for your upcoming telemetry project release and now have the FrSky transmitter and receiver modules but halfway expected to find either cables or references to the connector cables in the FrSky box. That was WRONG. Please tell me where to order/get the data cables/connectors that mate with the transmitter and receiver.

Also, can you give me a idea of what we will need to twiddle your firmware code when that time comes. I'm assuming that we'll need a compiler as a minimum and that there may be a defined development environment that you would recommend.
