Mr sneezy
I see your in adelaide as I am, what club do you fly at? I was reading on rc groups that you have made a vario and are waiting to get a frsky system to test.
I will be selling them here in adelaide, if you decide yopu want one let me know and I will order one in for you. I am getting one in for myself to test, maybe this week. I am looking to tee up with someone who knows about electronics to test out the system.

Any plans for a ground station with antenna tracking for a couple of antennas? TX for RC and video link RX antenna?

I would guess that would give the forum a lot of new readers, as a DIY project.

The problem with using a hi-gain transmitter antenna (tracking) is that it could cause your radio to exceed the legal emission levels (depending on your country).

Many countries are limited to 100mW of transmitter power for RC on 2.4GHz and in those places you're pretty much stuck with the standard dipole which produces an ERP (effective radiated power) of about 100mW

In countries where the maximum output is higher (some are 4W i believe) then you could run a 100mW transmitter with an antenna that provided a 40-times gain (16dBi) and still be legal but I think such situations are the exception rather than the rule.

Of course on a receiver (such as the video receiver of an FPV) you can use as much gain as you like, since there's no energy coming out of that antenna.

HI Bruce
Hows the project going? have you done any flight test yet? Got any videos of the display panels and plans on making it? I am really looking forward to seeing what you have done.

The forecast for yesterday offered fine, calm weather. It turned out bitterly cold and overcast. I also found that my 20x4 LCD panel had gone bad so I ordered another, plus a couple of new 128x64 graphic panels, they arrived today.

I'm hoping for some testing in the next couple of days now.

Rain, wind, rain, wind... damn!
Looks as if it might clear briefly in a couple of days time but I've got to take my wife back to the specialists for more treatment -- hopefully that day doesn't coincide with the good weather.

In the meantime, it gives me more time to polish some of the rough edges I guess.

Still waiting on good weather and available time to coincide. Still strong winds, driving rain and 8 degree temperatures at the moment. I hate winter!
