Electrical crimpers

Not sure the best place to put this. I was thinking of buying a crimper for servo connections and the like. I don't normally do anything too bulky, mostly just jst and servo style stuff, but there is a good chance I will end up having to use it for standard size motor/battery connections as well at some stage or another.

I was planning on putting an order through for a few components and the place has these crimpers:

Which of those would the most appropriate for my RC needs?

Cheers, Stu

The only ones that are any good for servo connectors are the HT202B and HT213.

I use some crimpers I bought from Radical RC about 8 years ago. Unfortunately the Radical RC site is unreachable from here right now -- but I think the ones you've linked to might be better anyway.

Thats awesome, thanks for that. Now I'm trying to figure out whether I would crimp 28ga or bigger than 20ga more often. Not too bad on price at least

Thanks for the help

I'd go for lever action crimpers over a single action type.

I use these ones. They give a nice tight folded over crimp.

I top up on crimp terminals when making up the weight on HK orders.
It's worth practising your technique on some scrap cable as it's possible to shear the pins if you get them just slightly misaligned in the tool.
Another tip is to label the jaws of the tool so you don't have to figure which way up and which side to come in from each time you go to use it.

HobbyKing recently started selling a very nice ratcheting crimper for $12. Shipping was $10 to the US. I just received mine, and it's top quality.

They give you connectors to practice on as well...

If you expect to use it a lot get the ratchet one....

The ratcheting crimper at Hansen Hobbies costs $40 plus US shipping. The same quality one at HobbyKing costs $12, plus $10 shipping.

The HK was not available when I got mine, although I did not get the ratchet one as the cheap one works OK...

If I were to get another one it would probably be the HK one... I put the post up for the info you get there because unless you know how to use it you would never find out at HK...
