FPV backpack

If you've been building electronic bits or modifying stuff you've bought then tell us all about it here. A good place to discuss the installation of 2.4GHz DIY modules too.

Thanks TP3Ranch and Mr McDonald, that answers my query very well. The one for the U.S. market has a different frequency range and no matching mini rx to date. So I'll have to decide whether or not to proceed with a 3rd collection of 5.8ghz frequencies or not mmm.

For what it's worth, I've read that you can modify the frequency set (A, B or E) on both the transmitters and receivers by soldering a 1K resistor across two particular pins on the Tx or Rx chip. If you do a Google search you can probably find the instructions. Since I've never tried it and don't know if it works, I can't confirm that it is worth trying or not. I'm pretty sure that's what Range Video does to set it to US frequencies.

The current offering on Goodluckbuy is NOT what I received when I ordered from them a few months ago. The receiver has the same PN but the Transmitter pictured is a totally different module. My modules match the spec sheets I posted links to from Foxtech.

Hi. This is a great site. I am an FPV experimenter, and am glad to see all the hacking of available equipment going on. I am also on FPVLAB and RCGROUPS. Some of my recent projects have been similar to the backpack, trying to use cheap and simple equipment. I used the receiver and transmitter modules from SDSHOBBY to build my own version. One thing I did was use a 3S lipo with a tap at 2S and a 3.3v regulator for the transmitter. I need the 12 v for the camera. I would be interested in people's experience with the SBECs, which are much more efficient and used in the commercial transmitters that run directly off 3s.

Other recent hacks I have done are:
1. An audio RSSI meter for the 5.8 receiver ground station. The tone increases with increasing RSSI signal. I use this to help point my goggle mounted helical antenna.
2. Installing Infrared cut filters for cheap cameras that lack IR filtering. Greatly improves the daylight color of these cameras. I bought 100 of the 650 nm filters recently, and am selling them nearly at cost to FPV people. $3 each or 4 for $10 postpaid in USA.

I hope to take part in your forums soon.

Sincerely

Sounds good to me... LMK when you're setup. A pic with dimensions would be good so we can see what we can apply it too.

Here is the link to the classified ad on rcgroups. It has a lot of the information. Write me again if you need more.

"So, bookmark this page now and come back in a day or so when the final design, bill of materials and other details will be posted."

Don't leave us hanging! When will this day or so be? I know hes been busy especially with the Turbine from HobbyKing, and I really do appreciate the work that has been done to produce these awesome videos but it feels like its been a decade since the backpack was announced. Would an ETA be possible or am i asking for too much?
In the mean time i will continue to bash my Axn and try to patiently wait.

rbcodell do you mind sharing some more info (possibly a schematic & parts list) how you made that audible rssi meter?
