FPV backpack

If you've been building electronic bits or modifying stuff you've bought then tell us all about it here. A good place to discuss the installation of 2.4GHz DIY modules too.

I'd say about the time you see a thread that says, "FPV Backpack Schematics Are Here."

Genius takes time so I guess we all have to hurry up and wait!!! ;)

Just as a courtesy for those who are interested in T3PRanch's schematics and board layouts but don't have Eagle installed, here are links to them as pdfs. This by no means should be considered a recommendation of his design, I'm not qualified to do that. I'm waiting for Bruce's proposed design.

No, you are definately wrong, genius has natural ability and accomplishes things in extraordinarily fast time with hardly any effort.

I beg to differ rotorz and you being asinine in your posts won't advance the process at all.

Having the ability to understand what one means prior to it being written is what I call intelligence. Having the patience to check one's facts before publishing them is what I call responsible. Trying to gain favour by insisting on something that is being gifted to you, but is not yet available is just plain inconsiderate.

FYI: A genius is someone embodying exceptional intellectual ability, creativity, or originality, typically to a degree that is associated with the achievement of unprecedented insight. Time is in no way relative to the definition or achievements of any genius, this was obviously your construct to justify your "I want it now" stance.

At the end of the day you're getting this for free regardless of the time it takes. Ergo, you have much to gain and all you stand to lose here is time. Waiting (like manners) cost nothing. If you want to FPV right now may I suggest you go and buy a commercial product? Otherwise let's leave this alone until Bruce has a chance to sort out what needs to be done huh? :|

Good things come to those who wait...

RSSI meter for the Backpack receiver

Here I have attached a little circuit that I am using to connect a signal strength meter to the 5.8Ghz backpack receiver RSSI
output. The meter will read zero with no signal received and full scale with a saturating signal.
Diodes can be just about anything 1N4148, 1N4001, 1N914, etc.
Adjust the 500ohm pot to zero the meter with no signal received.
Adjust the 5k pot for full scale with a saturating signal.
Job done
enjoy

Thanks very much for the signal strength meter circuit, that is great, I will definately use that little gem.
Cheers

I don't even recommend them myself without verification that they will do what you want them to do. They are just a first attempt with eagle and the manufacturers data sheets (I know they could be refined).
I have completely abandoned a board for my receiver. Just using header pins directly on the module and a multi pin plug. Power is from a 3A BEC.

Here is a link to a site that will give you all the information you need to make your own helical antennas for receiving video from your backpack.
Just enter your frequency and number of turns into the boxes and press "calculate"

http://jcoppens.com/ant/helix/calc.en.php

Here is one I made using the lid from a bean tin for the reflector.

Great find... thanks for posting :D

re "Input data (design requirements)" - there is a 3rd variable, "Turn spacing" in "wavelengths". The page default is 0.23 - do you understand how they arrived at this figure and what the significance of it is?
There must be some use for it, otherwise it wouldn't be available to change... but I just don't get it! :?: :?: :?:
Any ideas?
Did you use the default for your construction?

tnx...

Well I have something that seems to work, not fully tested yet but the voltages are ok.

Construction is a bit unorthadox, most parts are mounted on the foil side.

The module isn't soldered in place yet.

I started out with a bigger board than needed but if I don't want any mounting holes I can cut it down to 11 x 11 holes then mount it with hot melt glue.

I'll get a tippex free circuit diagram and vero drawing done one evening next week.

Cheers
