ER9x FW and eePe EEPROM Editor

Hi guys,

I know some of you don't frequent the RCG thread so I thought I'd start a new thread here to answer questions regarding the er9x FW and eePe eeprom editor.

For those of you who don't know what these are:
er9x is a custom FW replacement for the Turnigy/Eurgle/IMax/FlySky 9x.

There's a lot of information there regarding flashing, programming and troubleshooting the 9x.

eePe is the eeprom editor for er9x.
It allows for editing of er9x eeprom files. It can download and upload both the eeprom files and the flash files to the 9x transmitter.
It also includes a simulator that allows you to check your setup and functionality.

just wondering what you think of making a bootloader to allow flashing/reading eeprom tru the trainer port with a simulator cable? Do you think this would be possible? (http://code.google.com/p/er9x/issues/detail?id=102)

connecting through the trainer port would be fantastic if it can be done! The only thing stopping me from trying the th9x/er9x upgrade is the soldering - I'm nervous of risking my only Tx to my mediocre soldering skills.

Hi Guys,

Yes, I have been testing some ideas with having a bootloader. However, you would still have to flash the FW with a programmer the first time around.
There's a guy in Canada that's making a daughter board that includes a programmer and EL driver. The daughter board will be bolted into place into the existing screw holes and connect to the pads with "pogo sticks". This will probably be the easiest way to do it.

I will be shortly -- I have a 9X sitting here specifically for that purpose.

I'll be doing a "3rd-party Firmware" feature on RCModelReviews and linking prolifically to your work.

One more update for those of you who are not willing to solder:

s_mack (Steven) has done a great job making a daughter board which has a programmer and E.L. driver. He'll be selling those through his site (http://www.smartieparts.com/)
It's based on the usbasp programmer which has good support, drivers and is known to work with eePe and avrdude. He'll also includes a EL driver and backlight.

The great thing about this board is that it allows you to connect your Tx directly to the usb port on your computer. All this without soldering anything.

Okay, I've no expereince with this sort of thing in the past, so trying to get my head around it.

So I have to get the ER9x firmware, and to install that firmware I need to use the eeprom editor. Is that how it works?
