New FPV camera set-up. ;-)

Since I'll be by myself when I maiden the phoenix and axn, I thought I'd set myself up to take some video. I'll have a key-chain camera on the planes, but I also wanted some ground footage of them in the air. So here's a different "first person view".

Using Mrs Sid's camera (mine are too heavy) this will allow me to zoom in up to 4x and so see the model better. I tested out my aim just now and, after a bit of trial and error, it works quite well tracking cars on the road and birds in flight. I was going to rig up a wire frame " viewfinder" for one eye, under the peak, but I don't think I need it.

Looks right daft though.

Just a 1/4" camera mount screw.

Proper union ball cap.

As I said before Sid, I heard stories about you folks. I think its true...

But if it works, you should see some of the concoctions I dream up (and I live on an island).

The spot marked for center of gravity is pretty right and forgiving. Just full power and up but not too steep. You need a long final to bring her in (I am talking about the Phoenix 2000, not your hat).

Aw, the camera is actually quite small and very light. The wide angle lens on my phone makes it look enormous though.

When I showed it off to Mrs Sid, I didn't tighten up the screw properly... so as I turned my head, the camera slewed around and faced sideways.

I nearly had to call an ambulance, she was laughing so hard.

EDIT: HobbyKing have axn's in stock again, so order a spare if you want. I just did.

Good to see you're confident of a successful maiden flight. :)

I thought I'd give "hat-camming" a go this arvo. Unfortunately the battery ran out very quickly, but I managed this before it did...

Ha ha! Excellent! I'm pleased to see it worked well for you.

Looked a bit windy there though. My axn is all finished, just waiting for the winds to die down before I maiden it.

I'm just setting up a mix on the Tx to give some up elevator to counter the nose down tendency with increased throttle.

Reminds me, must charge the battery in Mrs Sid's camera. :D

I wouldn't worry about an elevator mix. I always meant to make one but you don't notice it that much so I never bothered.

It wasn't supposed to be windy at all yesterday, I must have found the only windy field in Sydney, lol.

But, but, I wanna use all the fancy mixing stuff I learned!

Meh, I'll probably just fly it with my thumbs and never use them.

All ready to go, nice sunny day...except it's blowing a gale here, gusting to 35 knots. Maybe not ideal weather for a maiden flight.
