Setting up a buddy-box for FPV flying at the club

I have two Turnigy 9x transmitters and would like to set them up as a buddy box system for flying FPV safely at the club. I've read somewhere that with the FrSky DIY kit installed there are some issues with master/slave set-up, something to do with both transmitters transmitting or something. Truth is, I can't remember.

Anyone know what the correct procedure is?

Also, can you use different Tx brands to buddy box or must they both be the same make and model?

It's actually very easy. The main box (transmitter) has the power switch on, the secondary box (not transmitting) has the power switch off. The secondary box will turn it's self on when you plug in the trainer cable. It doesn't matter what mods you have installed.

I'm sure the 9x would accept a standard PPM stream from another box. I have no idea if other boxes use some sort of non-standard stream. Try it with a ground test.

Sid,
You could use an in plane buddy box system

Here's a photo of one I made earlier I was going to sell them but I can't really compete with the hobbyking price sigh!.
Although mine does have a few extra features like automatically switching if one of the rx's fails and a built in fail safe for all eight channels.
