X8 flying wing build

Postby dannyzz » Thu May 31, 2012 6:45 am

I thought that i might start a build thread on the X8. I got it yesterday and it was surprisingly undamaged on the trip from china. It seemed to be well packaged and as usual no instruction manual to check if all the parts are there. I watched Alishanmao's video on the X8 and his one seems to have a lot more parts than my one. I did a dry fit and the only parts missing were 2 plywood boards that helps hold the wing in place and the 2 rods that go through the wing but it was no problem to make the parts in wood work. Also there are some other QC issues with the plane one of the corners of the wing was bent up and it wasn't from the postage. The constuction of the plane is pretty straight forward using that mucilage glue the only thing that i am concerned about is the winglets and the way they are held on which is 2 peices of wood screwed together and glued between the winglet and wing. I am going to use a NTM 35-48 900Kv motor and a 60A redbrick ESC and a 5000mah 4s nano tech battery and a 12x6 folding prop all from hobbyking. Supposedly it can stay up in the air for an hour and does any one know how much harder a wing to fly compared to a plane like the bixler?.

In steep turns a delta will side-slip surprisingly quickly.
Avoid steep turns initially until you are used to this effect you must roll upright again before applying up elevator to recover, this can catch you out when you instinctively apply up elevator as it plummets ground-ward worsening the problem.

There is a very long build thread on RCG on the X8 ... lots of good ideas in there though. I've been toying up between an X8 and a Zeph II so i'll be following your progress with interest. Good luck and have fun.

And here is my way of holding wings in place and it works pretty good.
