My FPV attempt

Here's an area where you can ask any kind of question about RC models and find a whole lot of useful information to help you get started.

My FPV attempt

Postby Fury » Sat Aug 27, 2011 10:59 pm

Well after looking on the net for the last few months I have finally ordered some stuff and began my attempt in putting together an FPV system.

I ordered the Skywalker plane from BEVRC and it arrived in a week.
I'm in OZ btw.
Also got the esc, motor, servos and kx181 ccd Sony camera from them.
The camera took about 3 weeks to get here, might have been out of stock or something.

Ordered the Turnigy 9x from hobby king which according to their website was on back order.
That took a week. Also the lipos which only took a few days to get here.

So started putting the plane together, all good so far and then I realized I wanted OSD.
So I ordered the FY21AP and OSD from Bevrc.
Arrived under two weeks.

So now I am working out how to install them. Thank to Bruce for the instructional video as I was struggling
how to connect the current sensor. It is just a circuit board and no instructions on how to wire that up.
So again lucky I had Bruce to show me that.

Keep you updated on my progress

I'm still sitting on the fpv fence, waiting for Bruces bareback Clouds Fly vids.

What transmitter and goggles/screen did you get? What antennas do you plan to use? Please keep us posted on your progress.

I found some googles on eBay. Called Jaz Media.
Cost me $53. Lucky find. They come with a rechargeable battery.
Also got 5.8ghz 200mW video tx and rx on eBay which took about 6 weeks to get here.
Need to research how to connect that as it seems to have an extra wire then
what I have seen on the Internet.

Also putting together an undercarriage which should be fun.
Considering I have no experience in putting things together this should be fun.

Also I did order real flight simulator from Tower Hobbies a couple of months agai.
Still waiting for that to arrive.

And a learn to fly type plane similar to the AXN floater from banana hobby about 3 months ago,
Still waiting for that. So hopefully I can learn how to fly rc, before I do the first
Flight in the Skywalker :)

Good luck with it all. I look forward to seeing vids. :)

Apart from the AXN Floater (which should arrive in a day or two...it's in Oz just has to go that final jump to Hobart) I'm holding off until Bruce gets his fpv stuff out the door.

Oh, and nobody told me that esc units can play tunes using the motor. I mean, wtf? The future is weird.
What goes up...better bloody stay up (until I say otherwise).

Flight in the Skywalker :)
I just wanted to quickly add that the whole "left/right reversed when the plane's coming towards you" thing can really stuff you up at he start. If you really haven't flown rc at all before then play with the sim and don't fly a real plane at least until you can do figure 8's in front of yourself and land while the plane is coming towards you.

The easiest way to get around the problem of reversed controls when the model is coming towards you is to simply say to yourself "stick to the lower wing", i.e. just push the aileron control stick towards whichever wing is lower, to level the plane.

Works a treat. :)
