Onesurf88

Hopefully this will assist you

Here is a screen shot of my Turnigy 9x when first turned on
Note that on the screen you see MODE 1 - don't be confused into thinking that means that it is a mode 1 controller, it actually means MODEL 1 (you can configure the 9x for up to 8 different RC models

Push down on MENU to bring up this screen. Note that the icon of the controller is highlighted

Press MENU again to bring up this screen. Again MODE in this screen means MODEL. Using MENU select MODE SELE (model select)

You will then get this screen. As you can see I have played around with mine with MODEL 1 set for the AXN Floater and MODEL 2 for my nice new Bixler 2.
Your Turnigy 9x on the other hand will have the default settings showing all the models named as Turnigy and the model type set as helicopters.

Hence why your main screen probably looks something like this (except MODE 5 will be MODE 1 for you)

So to change HELI to an aeroplane go back to this screen in settings and select TYPE SELE (type select)

So lets change it to an aeroplane. After selecting TYPE SELE with the MENU button you will get this screen

Using the UP / DN buttons highlight ACRO (for electric and gas powered planes etc). Once selected press MENU to save and exit. The message PLEASE WAIT will appear as it re-configures from HELI to ACRO (aeroplane).

Now as you really get underway and start buying more and more models you will want to rename MODEL 1 TURNIGY to a name you can recognise later. I used AXN for mine. Go back to this screen and using UP / DN select MODE NAME

That brings up this screen

Patience is the key with editing the name of the model on the 9x. UP / DN move the cursor left and right across the current name while + / - move the bottom cursor across your selection. Word of caution the bloody 9x beeps with every button pushed in this stage so if you don't want to upset anyone do it in private...

To change the letter or number move the bottom cursor to what you want and then hold down MENU button for longer than 1 second. Once you have finished changing the name press MENU button once to save and exit (if you push EXIT now you will not save all your hard work)

Now at this stage you should be getting closer to almost flying but before you do make sure that the 9x sticks are controlling the ailerons, rudder, throttle and elevator as they should be. Placing your model on the ground and standing behind it move your sticks to see if everything is good (careful with the throttle). If you find that you turn the rudder to the left only to see it go to the right on the plane don't panic.

Press MENU to bring up this screen

Using UP / DN highlight the spanner and screwdriver icon

That will bring up this screen

And we want the first one highlighted which is REVERSE.

Press MENU to bring up this screen

Using UP / DN move up or down the list to select the channel you need to reverse. Once selected press the +/- to reverse it. And don't forget to press MENU once to save and exit.

CAUTION: NEVER PLAY AROUND WITH THIS SCREEN WHILE FLYING

CAUTION: Although it has abbreviations like AIL / ELE and THR be very careful when reversing a channel as you may reverse the THROTTLE channel which makes the plane motor suddenly power up (move throttle stick up to take the power off - remember this when reversing it back to normal)

Thats all you need to do with the 9x to get the AXN up into the air.

Do you need assistance with the receiver in the AXN?

Good effort You have helped him to "name that model" but not to change the stick mode, which is what he was wanting. The confusion arises in that the name the model is called mode and the change stick mode is called model
Go to page 14 of the manual and see if you can go through the stick change with him.

Dear drg964,

Thanks for all your kind effort in showing the above screenshots. Sure it would benefit many new flyers like me.

I am very clear now that the screen is showing "model" rather than "MODE 1". What a confusion indeed. Infact, as a newbie, what matters most is to be able to assemble the kit and put it up to the air.....

I have finally assembled everything needed and ready to fly...... but kinda worry crash on first flight.... any suggestion?

By the way, is there a software and if possible to use my 9x as simulator on my computer?
