Any idea why the TFR8 antenna has and exposed end of 33mm and most other 2.4 receivers have a 30mm exposed end, which is a 1/4 wave of 2.4Ghz????????? :!:

It could be manufacturing tolerances, an attempt to get a better match with the receiver's front end or something else.

In the case of an antenna that only receives and doesn't transmit, the length of the antenna is nowhere near as critical as it is on a transmitting antenna.

I just received some of the FASST receivers with orange hard case and ironically they are not Futaba compatible :)
The servo connector notch slots are missing - either have to work the case or servo connectors or go back to shrink wrap...

These are from HobbyKing right?

It looks as if HK have had their own "orange" cases made.

Yes, from HK - ended up by cutting off a small piece from the top of each Rx case instead of eg. working on servo connectors.

They must have changed this because I have 4 of these receivers and the futaba plugs fit perfectly..

Well I now have 4 of these TFR8 Fasst receivers from Hobbyking..

I have done my own personal "non technical" testing both static and in flight and can say they are equal to my 617FS receivers in all aspects..

Firstly the range test.. see this post

http://rcmodelreviews.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=157

I have performed a similar range check on all 4 Orange Receivers and they give identical range to the genuine Futaba - IE Perfect to over 3.5kilometers line of sight.

I have also extensively flight tested them in 450 size helicopters and again, they perform identically to the Genuine article..

The only modification I made was to open the case and hot glue around the aerial connectors to give them a bit more rigidity to cope with the helicopter vibrations.. I don't know if this is necessary but it was just my own level of "risk management"

A few pics of the Orange RX in my heli.. I love them... I can get 4 for the price of one genuine Futaba RX.. how can you beat that!

Yes, FrSky said they were making a few improvements on the prototype unit I reviewed so I'm not surprised that they've improved the range very slightly (I found the prototype to offer very *slightly* less range than the "genuine Futaba" FASST receiver.

So far I've had nobody reporting any issues with these receivers -- that's good news.

I am very hapy with my TFR8 receivers. Pity they won't bind to a T6EX.

Whatever happened to the test of the Orange HobbyKing Receiver. Will you be testing this at some stage. Would be interested in your thoughts on this as well. Cheers!
