One of the problems will probably be that cheap LCD screen. Many of these screens are designed to show a blank blue or black screen when there's noise on the video signal.
This means that even though there might still be a useable video signal, the screen won't display it -- it switches to its "blanked" mode.
With regards to the cloverleaf antennas -- make sure that if you're using them on the transmitter and the receiver that they are both polarized in the same direction.
It is also possible that there's an issue with your transmitter, receiver or camera. What battery are you using to power the camera/transmitter?
