hi everyone

i just had my first flight fpv it went well but the screen seemed to blackout alot but you could see shadowed contours of the hills and it only happened in certain areas my setup is HK 5.8g 200mw video system and 7 inch cheapo lcd screen from china vasion and a 420tvl sony ccd camera pal any ideas on what it might be?

Using the same setup with the cheap PAL Sony Camera. This is what ours looks like on a sunny day and it also seems to work well in the dark.
It not high quality but still very reasonable for FPV flight. Also note that I'm using an Ebay Wideangle lens on this camera.

Possibly multipathing, or maybe your signal is being interfered with by some other transmitter?

Try in a second location, preferably one with no other possible rf sources. (well away from any buildings)

Try making yourself some Cloverleaf antennas, they really are awesome and are easier to make than you think.

I am flying it on a golf course that is pretty isolated i dont think RF noise would be a problem. As for the cloverlear antenna i already made one and that seemed to make it worse. From what i can see i think i made it right.

One of the problems will probably be that cheap LCD screen. Many of these screens are designed to show a blank blue or black screen when there's noise on the video signal.

This means that even though there might still be a useable video signal, the screen won't display it -- it switches to its "blanked" mode.

With regards to the cloverleaf antennas -- make sure that if you're using them on the transmitter and the receiver that they are both polarized in the same direction.

It is also possible that there's an issue with your transmitter, receiver or camera. What battery are you using to power the camera/transmitter?

I am using one battery to power all the electronics on the plane and it is a turnigy 3000mah 20c. The screen dosent go complety blank, more like it goes very (very) dark and the only thing you can see is the outline of the horizon. As for the antennas my bad, i was only using a cloverleaf on the video transmitter guess i will make one up for the receiver.

There is no benefit in a single cloverleaf antenna with a whip on the receiver. You don't reject any multipathing and you lose 3db of signal compared to 2 whip antennas. Make a skew-planar antenna (a 4 lobe cloverleaf) for your receiver and try that.

Otherwise Bruce is right that another part of your setup probably has a fault.
