skyWing esc programming

Postby francoishaha » Wed Feb 08, 2012 1:21 am

I got a cheap SkyWing esc 60A and i would like to know how to setup the ESC for a 4s battery. Initially i use it with 3s lipo and everything work well.
Recently i buy a 4s battery with 4s motor. First time i try the 4s battery,
the motor run well up to 30% throttle but over 30% the motor begin to turn wild. I set the ESC to 4s and nothing more.

Can someone give me some hint on how to set it?

i send a link to the programming sheet

what is: 5 option (timing mode setting)
and 6 option (pulse width modulation setting)

how do i know the number of pole?
is it the number of coil inside the motor?

The pulse width modulation is set to low pole count you could try changing that.
Most outrunners are 10-14 pole (mostly 12) so that could be changed.
A bigger prop to increase the load might help also since "cogging" occurs if the motor goes over speed (the drive gets out of phase).

before i change the pulse width modulation, i made this video,
i didn't have chance to fly again, cause of the temperature,
here a quick video that show the probleme,

Hi Francois,
It does sound like "cogging" the fact that you can get drive up to 30% throttle seems to verify that.
I've had cogging when setting up a model with no prop on (for safety) and run the motor up to test it, it sounds just like that first running roughly then dying.

i finally had the chance today to try my model with new ESC setting,
like you said (BillFriffiths100) i change the timing mode setting to (10-14 pole)
and the motor turn pertty well now. I didn't have the guts to go full throttle more than 3 sec,
the plane goes realy fast ... hehehehe, well i am happy with the reslut.
as a 3s flyer, i got to get experience with 4s, ... much more powerfull
Thanks for the help :)
