I'm new to RC and bought an AXN

Here's an area where you can ask any kind of question about RC models and find a whole lot of useful information to help you get started.

My first AXN motor started to shed a magnet but I glued it back in with SuperGlue. Eventually another started to come loose and I thought "I'll fix that after one more flight"...

It jammed the motor up and blew the speed controller -- ah well, that's life.

New AXN motors are pretty cheap (when in stock) anyway so I bought four of them :-) Still have three left.

Looks like my AXN is off to the boneyard, just one too many frontal impacts even after some carbon fibre reinforcing. Servo mounts are toast and the cockpit sides are weaker than a bread crust.I did promise some YouTube of my maidens but until I get Sony Vegas working for me its' a no go.
While I'm waiting for my FlySky 9X to arrive and power the Skyartec FunSky I'll see if I can do a "Ron" on the AXN, thats half the enjoyment of this hobby the other half is getting it up  in the air!!

I'm sorry to hear you're out of the sky, but hopefully you'll see it as the opportunity I have and when you build the next one you can make some mods that are likely to prolong its life and make it look better too?

I will not post the autopsy I mentioned prior because unfortunately she who must be obeyed was getting annoyed at the AXN corpse in my hobby room (which is technically the lounge too ;) ), but I have got the mods photographed and ready to post hopefully tonight.

I am looking forward to seeing the videos and if you manage a mongrel mix that rivals Ron's efforts we can have you both upload the maidens and compete for best crash among the three of us

More soon mate...

Thanks for the confidence Hallmark, I have crawled out of my pit of depression  carbon rod, glue and tape in hand will now conquer the world ;)

Will be playing with Sony Vegas so I can post, in the meantime will have to look for a bigger field I have too many obstacles, when you see the vids you will understand.

I'm still working on the vids, in the meantime repairs are being effected

The hot water trick on EPO is a life (money) saver most of the shape has been restored enabling small cracks and loose bits to be glued in place. What the structural integrity is will be determined at the next crash site, I am very pleased with my efforts 8-) particularly not now having to create a servo mount for rudder and elevator.
Ahhhh, hot water, soothe an aching back!!(can also be used to repair EPO :D )

The last sacrificial crash was a result of the rudder servo doing its' own thing, somehow right full rudder became centre. The arm was not meshing with the drive cog in the position it was aligned, TowerPro hmmmmm!!, will give my HK oranges a run now and will be looking for a new flying field.Big is better and I am not happy sharing with these monsters.

That's a lot better than it would have been with a balsa aeroplane. You would have needed a shovel after the 1st "landing".That AXN sure is tough.
But seriously,Den,try getting some height before you turn.Height=safety.It gives you some time to think about what you're going to do next. Also, keep the sun at your back,it stops you getting blinded, and losing the plane.
A larger area would also be nice,if you can find one. Those water tanks look awfully hard!
It's very difficult to learn on your own, since you have nothing to go on.But you're halfway there, mate!Keep it up.

Thanks Quarry, lots of trees, towers and concrete structures to deal with. The grass area is about 10000sqm and I thought that would be enough but alas not, across the road is the main feeder/distributor for the city so I don't want to be heading there hence I am limiting my self. I am working on the motorbike theory, if you can control it in a small area at slow speed the hard work is done. The otherside of the plant is croc country  so landing in/on one of the tanks is preferable.
It's all good fun and the AXN is tough.

I see what you mean by the motorbike theory, but with planes start big and get smaller as you progress. With a bike if you're going too slow you can just put your foot down, it's not quite the same with planes. I'd stick with 50% (or more) throttle until you get used to the stall speed.

I read somewhere that the AXN is suited to a 300m x 300m field. I'd say 150m x 150m bare minimum. I have flown mine in 100m x 50m, but it's not much fun.

And +1 for quarry44's comment, height is your friend.
