A quote from hacker masterspin ESC manual:
"The lengths of the engine power wires are not critical that much, but they also should be as short as
possible. Long wires should be twisted to avoid electromagnetic interference of the R/C-receiver."
I have heard this "long wires to the battery can cause destruction of the ESC" but I think it's most probably an urban myth. I have had several ESC's fail on me and none of them had long battery leads but if they had I might possibly jump to the conclusion that that was it was somehow the cause of the failure.
I have yet to see a demonstration of ESC's being destroyed by long battery wires.
Personally I am of the opinion that the wires would have to be very long indeed to cause a problem.
Provided the wires are sufficiently thick and conductive they will not to cause any resonant voltage fluctuations.
But obviously keep as short as possible but make them as long as you need!

You accept the tyranny of the state when it's not being applied to you, when it is: it's too late.
