FPV backpack

If you've been building electronic bits or modifying stuff you've bought then tell us all about it here. A good place to discuss the installation of 2.4GHz DIY modules too.

You have to take all Bruce says with a big pinch of salt guys.... That way you will not be disappointed with his late deliveries...

Just take a look at that post that keeps popping up giving things away that has been running for a few years now, and it still gets posts...?

When (and if) it ever gets up I will be pleasantly surprised, but I think I will have moved on to other things...

just add camera, quality :?: , reliability :?: , warranty  , delivery time 35 days or money back :D

Does't that look suspiciously like the 200mw Foxtech unit? All 500mw units I've seen have had a much bigger heatsink and in most cases also a small fan for cooling.

Yes - i've read elsewhere that the 500mw units are the same unit as the 200mw - just run at a much higher power. This has apparently lead to a lot of reliability issues with the 500mw unit. Personally i'm stearing clear of the 500mw units.

From what i can see (take this with a grain of salt) ... but the foxtech 200mw unit seems to provide equivalent performance as the immersion 600mw version. (Note that the two styles operate at different frequencies anyway - foxtech's all end in xxx5, immersion's all end in xxx0).

Also worth pointing out that the original manufactuerers are SkyRF (foxtech) and Airwave (Immersion).

The new 400mw Tx does appear to be the same as the 200mw, just with more power. All of the 500mw txs I've seen (and I do own one from BosCam) are longer, have a bigger heat sink and a fan. BTW, before you plan to buy a 500mw Tx, check with the retailer to make sure that they don't glue the dipole antenna on to the unit so that it can't be replaced. I ran into that with the unit from DronesVision.

I have just ordered the 200mW 5.8ghz tx and tx modules from fox tech along with a 3.3v mini camera as well.
So I am going to try and get these built an run them off a 1s lipo.
Is this the right way to go or am I missing something important?

These are the parts:

http://www.foxtechfpv.com/tx5823-200mw- ... p-272.html
http://www.foxtechfpv.com/fh18c-5v-mini ... p-493.html
Total was about $72 with delivery to uk.

I also have a camera from securitycameras2000 which is a 520tvl but works on 12v so not great for this set-up.

I've successfully run two on a 1s Lipo, about 350mah, (one tx lost in a fly-away) and fried one tx, so be careful. I'd suggest you hang onto it when you power up, if it gets too warm to hold, this one is not the one to use with a lipo. A safer option is to drop the voltage to 3.3v, there's a number of li'l gadgets out there to do that, I think Foxtech sell one too, if not Range Video and FPV Flying do, Range's is simpler as it requires no adjusting. 3.3v camera is a wiser choice too, it is possible to keep all the voltages at the same level and run this setup quite successfully, I've been running the Range video setup for 2 months now, and it's very good, one day I'll get the circular polaristed tx end working.

Gentlemen (and rotorz/Thurmond),

I have received my backpack and it is as sweet as promised. I chatted to Bruce about the set up and operation and I shall test it tomorrow on the bench with a maiden on my 'Blue Bruce' between then and the weekend.

Bruce was kind enough to make it so that I can separate the camera from the Tx and have the camera on my pan/tilt device, with the Tx at the aft of the fuselage.

I will post more photos soon, but here's some teasers for now...

Would this http://www.goodluckbuy.com/5-8g-200mw-w ... ystem.html combo do for the fpv backpack? The summer will end before there will be a complete guide to the backpack...
