New Mini SkyWalker Build Overview Video - Fun FPV Model

Postby bmsweb » Mon Jun 25, 2012 9:06 pm

I'm sure that this post and model goes against NZ National Model Flying Org since its all about fun, but what the heck here we go.

While buying my son's birthday present from Hobby King I descided to throw in a model for my self and I ended up purchasing the Mini Skywalker. What I wanted to do was basically put the FPV gear that came with the FatShark Predators into good use, hence the reason for this model. I haven't had a chance to maiden it as the weather has been pretty crap here in Melbourne, so touch wood it flies well. In any case this is it so far:

Hi Paul,

When you say you're using the FPV gear with the FS Predators, do you mean you've got the Airwave based VTx/VRx (ie FatShark, ImmersionRC, etc - the FREQ's that all end with "0")?

If i recall, you're other FPV gear is from FoxTechFPV isn't it (SkyRF based)?

If that's the case, i'd be REALLY interested in that comparision. I can't get a good handle on what can be compared with what in order to get a true apples with apples comparision.

Now heading off to look at your vid !!!!

Thanks
Peter

Hi Peter,

Yes I believe its the ImmersionRC vTX & RX that it comes with. Its worth noting that its only 100mw as compared to the Hobby King 5.8g 200mw FPV AV Tx & Rx Set. From my understanding half the power of the 200mw system doesn't mean half the distance. I've only been out to 1.5klms which was due to me putting in the wrong receiver in the bixler and not pushing it, but even at 1.5klms, the video signal was great. So based on that, I'm hoping I get similar results with this model. Mind you if I intend on flying this model close as I don't want to put an OSD in at the moment and I don't intend on getting lost up there :)

Thanks Paul,

Will follow with interest!

Yep - 4 x the power required for double the distance. So if 1.5 was your theoretical limit with 200mw, if they are equivalent performance, you should be able to see 1km with the Airwave RF gear (FatShark/Immersion). (Thats assuming my maths hasn't let me down)

Cheers

Peter guessing I would say I'm expecting something like 3klms at the minimum with the 200mw system. At 1.5 it was still perfect! So fingers crossed I get well over 1Klm with this little beast. I think the Predator without the FPV gear was 269 and with the FPV gear it was 299 so for $30 more it seemed worth while. Mind you the camera that came with it isn't great in IMHO.
