Better way to attach AXN Prop

If you didn't have to build it then you can talk about it here.

Better way to attach AXN Prop

Postby mthiel » Sun Jul 29, 2012 1:39 am

I just experienced losing the standard AXN 5x5 prop in mid-flight. It was attached with the standard black rubber band to the motor shaft. On the 2nd of 3 flights, I noticed the rubber band seemed a bit more brittle than before. I took it up for a 3rd flight, and then in the middle I heard a weird sound so I returned it to the ground not realizing the prop was missing. I was able to glide it back with no problems. This is a testament to the forgiveness this plane gives a newbie like myself.

My questions are:

1. Is there a better way to attach the prop to the motor shaft? Does anyone have any pictures to share? I thought there may be some type of set screw I could use to make a stronger hold.

2. I understand the AXN comes with a pusher prop, but does that make it a special prop design or that it is just located central to the fuselage? Can I buy any old 5x5 prop to work with the AXN?

Thanks for your time.

I can't take credit, It's on Bruce's Bill of Materials on his AXN build page.

With any luck mine should turn up tomorrow, whoopee!
