New HK tool

If you've been building electronic bits or modifying stuff you've bought then tell us all about it here. A good place to discuss the installation of 2.4GHz DIY modules too.

I just got a similar gun that runs on 4x AA's, lower power though.
It actually works!!!!
However, the stream of glue that comes out is pretty thin, so dont expect too much. Minor repairs only ??

Yeah it would be for minor only but you could probably widen the nozzle somehow

The other way to go would be to just bring an inexpensive power inverter along, and plug in an A/C hot glue gun. It'll work as well as it does on your bench.

Our soaring club goes on slope soaring trips to a neighboring state, and I've found a power inverter to be of great use for many field repairs, such as soldering, charging a LiIon powered Dremel tool, using a drill, etc. Then you don't have to buy as many battery powered tools at all.

Feild Test

Ok , Ive tested my portable glue gun on the feild & at indoors: actual onsite repairs

For normal planes: 800mm & bigger: The bond isnt very strong. The glue bond broke, that never happens with 240v normal glue guns(for me).
The low temp glue melts & sticks, but isnt as sticky as normal glue guns.
Perhaps the normal 240v hot glue slightly melts the actual foam giving a better bond ??

For small indoor planes, with Fragile foam (My Kyosho micro) : works brillantly. The kyosho has fragile foam, that even foam safe CA will melt
Absolutey no problems with the portable glue gun. Fixed a tear across 2/3 of the wing & was back up flying again.

So:
good for micro's
hopeless on outdoor planes (bond is too weak)

The HK one is only 10Watts,so i wouldn't expect much heat from that one.And how do you determine which are low-temp sticks? All i generally see around here are the semi-clear ones. They work fine in my 240v jobbie, but i have no idea what the temp range is.

I posted a thread on the hot glue gun I ended up with here - viewtopic.php?f=57&t=1644.

In it is a link to a wiki on hot glue stuff worth a glance (IMHO), if you're interested.

cheers
