Traxxas Slash 4x4 Brushless

Postby hiTmanhiT » Thu May 06, 2010 4:03 pm

Since I started in this hobby, I decided to just stick with model airplanes, and possibly helicopters.
Cars wasn't the thing for me I thought.

But what do you do when people in your club with awesome persuading-skills, buy themself a neat car?
Well, as I was standing there, getting to try the beauty out, I had no choice. I had to go home, and buy me one of these wonders.

So yesterday I ordered a new Traxxas Slash 4WD Brushless from http://imgcdn.rcmart.com/catalog/rc-traxxas-6808-slash-p-30763.html and bought some 5000mah 3S Lipos from http://hobbycity.com/ to get some speed on this thing. Some say they can reach 60mph(100km/h) with 3S lipos with stock setup. Im gonna find out.

Best thing is that it is all RTF, and 100% waterproof. Perfect for a newbe as myself!
And the controller, which is a 2CH when it arrives, is actually a 4CH radio. You just need to mod it a little bit. Maybe I'll create a post on that process here later?
Anyways, I'm really looking forward to try this thing out, on the rainy days when flying is out of the question!

Anyone else got this one, or have been looking at it?

Filmed a little video of it the other day, at our field(got some more vids there as well if you guys are interested):

I dont have the money for this hobby, its getting to expensive when im going to try everything that is RC
Oh, and Bruce, im pretty sure there is room for a pulsejet on the top of this one

I've always wanted to get myself a decent RC car but never had the time.

Hopefully a few more RC car guys will chime in and help educate the rest of us as to the pro's and con's of this area of the hobby and what's good/what's not.

Let us know how you get on.

I got it in the mail today, and have been testing it a few hours today.
The stock 8.4V Nimh battery, was thrown out the window. So I put in a Turnigy 5000mah 20C 3S battery. Had to use the Dremel a little bit to get it in there, but hey, everything for power.
Also tried the 30C battery later in the day.

First run:
Tried it for the first time at a local gravel pit. Great location for this type of truck. And it really does get some great speeds, and you do not often get to use full throttle on this thing.
Anyways, this car loves gravel. It literrary gets in EVERYWHERE in this truck. Every imaginable spot, there was a little gravel, which also got consequences. I got gravel by the slipper-clutch, so it loosened on my first run, and the axle-hub got pretty scratched up.
Easy fix though. But I'll probably invest in a overtray (http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_inf ... -Slash-4x4), though I am afraid it will get a little hot in there. Because the engine gets HOT.

Also tried it a little bit on asphalt with the 30C battery, and man does this thing get up to speed! Didn't have any radar-man there today to check the speed, but that will be tested later!

So I do not regret this buy yet! I already love this truck, and look forward to further testing.
Got some video put together from the first run here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7_jgCP8WGY (you could also check out my other videos, mostly RC-planes and helis)
Will post some pics later!

Enjoy the film!

Compromising with out of control government is like living with a lion, sooner or later the bloody thing will eat you .

You accept the tyranny of the state when it's not being applied to you, when it is: it's too late.
