Corona DS-538MG Digital Servos Burn at Idle

Postby Pop Rivet » Thu Aug 29, 2013 11:01 pm

We have read the internet comments about the DS-538MGs burning up while sitting at idle; no input-signal changes, no end-of-travel jams. I must admit I was skeptical...until we experienced this same condition. So far, I've heard of five such failures, two of which occurred in my club. If the pix comes thru, you'll see a hole burned in the bottom cover, with significant melt-back of the plastic. In the hole, are the remains of the two amplifier ICs.

Appreciate the heads up, was looking at using for a large size tri-copter.
Not enough time in the day for all my crazy ideas, I'm not slow, I'm just pacing myself

Looks like the attachment didn't upload...oh rats!
It's quite unnerving to see your model just sitting on the stand with smoke pouring out.
BTW, the seller tells us Corona servos are not guaranteed...nice touch!... and inquiries to the factory have gone unanswered. Too bad Corona, you've lost a bunch of customers.

Yes reviews seem to indicate the electronics have a serious problem, you could eviscerate the remaining servos and change the electronics with that from standard analogue servos rather than chucking them away to keep the metal gearing goodness! But otherwise they sound bad...
Compromising with out of control government is like living with a lion, sooner or later the bloody thing will eat you .

You accept the tyranny of the state when it's not being applied to you, when it is: it's too late.
