New FASST compatible receivers from China

It looks as if they're nearly here.

Who will be lining up for some Chinese-made FASST-compatible receivers when they start shipping?

Not me. Them radios cost money. I am happy with "just a 72 system".

A Swedish site claims to have them in store: http://www.airmedia.se/index.php?act=vi ... uctId=1234

SEK 490 is about USD 68. The price in Euro is €51.45.

Anyone actually tried them?

At that price it ain't worth it in my opinion (I'm a cheapskate and a Spektrum user who's waiting for the Speccy compatibles to become a stock item at HK). Al's hobbies in the UK have the genuine article at £53 (7 channel).

I can hardly wait to try one out. Trouble is that it takes way too long to see anything that is actually available. I am still waiting for the spektrum clones. How long will it be before these are available? Is there something going on behind the scenes that is keeping these clones from coming out in a timely manner?

So did Frsky reverse engineer the necessary protocols and such or did they get a hold of some proprietary Futaba information and copy it? If they were able to figure things out on their own, good on them! But if they did the latter, well, it would make me think twice about buying one. I'm all for lower cost alternatives (I own 4 frsky receivers already) but I also believe that counterfeiting eventually results in fewer choices as companies become reluctant to spend money on R & D....

I'd wager that they will have reverse-engineered rather than copied. These don't look too much like the genunine FASST receivers so they're "compatible" but not clones.

I noticed what looks like a heat-shrink sheath on the aerial leads in the link above, I hope they implement that on their own rx. I wonder how different the hardware is to that used in their own system? Could they have just used diffent software to make it comaptible?

Hobby King said they planned to sell Futaba compatible receiver soon. Will it be FrSky?

I advised them to carry FrSky.

I don't know if HK are planning to sell the FrSky or not. I dare say that there may be others also working on tapping into the lucrative FASST market.
