Turnigy 3632-1200

Postby mdflys » Thu Aug 05, 2010 9:30 pm

Hello everyone,

I need some input. I have a Turnigy 3632-1200 motor w/ a 40amp esc and I'm using a 2450 3 cell lipo.

Here is the issue: When I increase the throttle above 3/4 the motor makes a SCREECHING noise and comes to
a halt. Reduce throttle to 0 and start again, all is well, until I hit the 3/4 mark. I can fly the plane it is in as long as I
don't go over the said throttle seting but would rather not. (DUH)

Any ideas as to what is happening????

I look forward to your comments.

Your ESC settings perhaps???
Check the timing is correct.

crampy,

You hit the nail on the head. Timing it was. Purchased a programming card some time ago and never used it.
Did some diging and found the card, set the timing from soft to medium and gave it a rip. No more screech.
Changed prop to a larger size and ran it up, the screech was back. Re set the timing to hard and whala all
was well. Thanks for the tip/suggestion.

Now, can you educate me as to what the timing is doing and why this worked.

Thanks,

mdflys

Nice, I'm glad you got it sorted.

I'm not sure how to explain the timing... It's the way in which the windings are pulsed in the motor. With a bigger prop you need to change the timing as it slows the motor, by putting more loading on it. The "HARD" timing setting was required to keep it spinning right.

I'm sure someone else could explain in more (and better) detail.
