JR 9303 or Futaba 9c - For FrSky 2.4 mod (possibly 2 way)

If you've been building electronic bits or modifying stuff you've bought then tell us all about it here. A good place to discuss the installation of 2.4GHz DIY modules too.

JR 9303 or Futaba 9c - For FrSky 2.4 mod (possibly 2 way)

Postby bapgood » Mon Aug 16, 2010 8:44 pm

I have been searching for reviews and feedback on both the FM JR 9303 and Futaba 9c (and variants usually find to buy is the 9chp super)

I want a good FM radio to convert to FrSky 2.4 and will probably just start with the two way module as it is compatible with both the one way and two way receivers.

I can find tons of info and reviews on the 9303 most of which are good....one main question I have on the 9303 is if there is any difference between the FM version and 2.4 version with the software and/or functions of the radio

I know this could be one of those Ford vs Chevy brand loyalty debates....but I'm just looking for good quality radio and to not spend an arm and leg to get it....currently using a DX6i and know I have been bit by one of Spektrum's bugs a couple of times, plus I'm looking to upgrade radios anyway but don't want to stay with Spektrum and cant afford Futaba's new stuff.

One thing I have noticed while looking is that the 9303's are harder to find and are usually more money.

Your input will be greatly appreciated....and thanks for your time

As far as I'm aware, there's no significant difference between the 9303 FM/PCM and the 2.4GHz version.

In this part of the world they're known as the JR9XII and DSX9

One of these radios plus the FrSky module/receivers is a good alternative if you can get the radio at a decent price on the second-hand market.

I have a JR9XII (9303) with FrSky module/recevers, it works very nicely.

You can see it in this video:

Thanks for the info and the truly great site and forum you have going....finally some good no bs info....keep up the great work!!!

The 9303 is the way I have been leaning, but like I said they are hard to find and $$$....most fm/pcm have been upgraded to 2.4...and must have been upgraded with the solid gold, cuz they want serious money for them :)

I'm going to keep doing research and try to hold out for a 9303 but I can find several 9chp super's for $150-$175 usd that seem to be in good to great shape

anyway thanks again and keep up the great work and I'm following (or trying) your telemetry project with great interest

So long as you're not into 3D heli-flying the 9C is an okay radio too.

Why is that?

I have a Protos that I haven't had the courage or proper instruction to get out and destroy yet....just some hovering and what not....rocking the sim....but that all goes out the window for me when the real thing spools up :)

The 9C has some serious latency issues if you're flying CCPM helis to the limit (or so I'm told).
