Glow Fuel - 20% Castor/Synthetic - Dilute

Just a quick question after reading one of your recent articals

If i buy 20% oil mix fuel can i add an amount of metho to that fuel mix so that my oil mix is brought down. For example if i buy 10% nitro 20% oiil mix if i add metho to that mix i could bring down my oil content to say 15% or 12% still leaving me with 6% or greater Nitro.

The problem is that if you've got fuel that already has 20% oil then the chances are that the oil they've used to make it is not particularly good quality oil.

To run lower percentages of oil you have to use a high-quality ester-synthetic such as Fucsh Aerosave or similar.

To use 12% of a PAG-based oil like Morgans or Klotz would be very risky.

would a .61 asp four stroke have any gripes about running on 20-80 castor ethanol mix made at home.

With a proper tune it should be fine. A good hot plug is a must.

You have to use methanol, ethanol won't work and a fully-castor oil package isn't the best option for 4-stroke engines as it will eventually cause carbon buildup and possible sticking of the exhaust valve over time.

You can do a Google search to find a methanol provider in your area.

As for oil, If you can't find a source of Motul Micro or Fuschs Aerosave then you'll find that Klotz Super-Techniplate or Mogans "pink" (castor/synth) will work fine at about 18%.

The next thing is determining whether they measure by weight or volume.

I know some fuel-blenders measure by weight -- it allows them to claim higher oil percentages when actually skimping a bit.

Oil is heavier than methanol so xx% by weight would mean quite a it less than xx% by volume.
