Klotz - what is it?

Glow/Nitro and gas engines, propellers, fuel and other stuff associated with making lots of noise and thrust.

Klotz - what is it?

Title says it all. Bit of trawling uncovers that it's a synthetic lubricant. But where to buy it in oz and what's it used for

Klotz make a range of oils.

Their Techniplate lubricant is a 100% synthetic oil of (these days) relatively low quality. You'd need to use no more than 17% of it (by volume) in model glow fuel if you wanted to properly protect your engine.

They also sell a version of castor oil called Benol which is supposedly "fortified" in some way but, apart from the color, it seems just the same as SIG castor oil to me.

They also sell a castor/synth mix which they call SuperTechniplate. This is mainly (80%) their synthetic oil and 20% castor oil. It offers a compromise between the superior lubrication of castor and the cleaner running offered by the synthetic.

None of these oils should be run at less than 17% by volume.

I don't use them -- there are far better oils out there.

You can use Coolpower (pink) or Klotz SuperTechniplate oils at 17% and you'll have no problems -- but I just prefer to use lower percentages of a higher-quality oil such as Fuschs Aerosave or Motul Micro.

Motul micro is 70 and not in stock in Australia. Any other oils one might try.

Good and cheap btw. :)

The problem is that the US-brand oils seem to have a strong grip on the market in Australia and NZ, thanks to their powerful distribution chain. That makes it harder for other players to get a foot in the door and, because the market is so small, it's not worth importing in economically viable quantities unless you can be sure you're going to grab a fair share of that market.

I pay around NZ$20 per litre for my Fusch Aerosave oil but it wouldn't be worth shipping to Oz because the postage on a litre would be more than the oil -- otherwise I'd send you some.
