wifi questions

Postby S-rob » Fri Jan 21, 2011 10:15 pm

Hi guys

What are your thoughts extending the range on home wifi,
mainly in multistorey homes with wifi signal loss through floors, mulitple walls etc.
I have tried high gain ariels, powered boosters & repeaters( access points placed 1/2 way that boost the signal)
I never had any real success with any one these.

I can understand why repeaters may not work well,: trying to boost a poor signal
What about high gain ariels & boosters: would these only work IF they were at both ends (ie at the transmitter/router & at the receiver/PC) ??
The homes where I have tried these, the users have no comprehension of limits of wifi & expect it to work perfectly through multiple wall & floors

Cheers

What I did on my home network is that I used 'wired' wireless AP/routers. I use LAN cables to connect the 2 routers/AP together. It might be extra work to wire them up, but a LAN connection is more reliable.
