Turnigy 9x transmitter li-ion battery conversion

Nicad, NiMH, Lithium, A123? If it's transmitter or receiver batteries you want to talk about, do it in this forum.

Looking forward to that. I must say the "open ended" mixing functions offered by some of the third party software is very appealing. I'd want to use the Frsky module though.

i don't want to be a thread jacker but its not a question really worth starting a new thread for. Does this mod work on all flysky 2.4ghz radios?
i'm about to buy a flysky gt3-b surface tx and it does seem rather a shame to fit a lipo (3x the cost of li-ion) or eneloops (4x cost) if i can get away with a simple, cheap little 2s li-ion pack

I haven't looked at the other FrSky radios but something "similar" should work -- however the devil is in the detail.

With a suitable schematic diagram it's easy enough to work out the mods. I'll see if I can find the schematic for that radio.

been thinking about it and just tricking the voltage monitor into overreading by about 0.9v so the 9v warning buzzer becomes an 8.1v warning would do the job i need, case of finding the right resistor to solder in

Can Airtronics RDS8000 and JR 8103 with FrSky 2.4 module be converted to 2S LiPo 7.4V operation?

Since the TR 18650 Li-po's are so large and require extra room in the battery compartment, I was curious if anyone has tried to make the same 9x mod with these: http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.26124 . I realize it's only rated at 900mAh, but wouldn't a 2 cell pack be a much better fit? Any thoughts?

Tried to add resistor as you described in your review, wrecked the copper tracking and the top 5.1K resistor. Is this board now defunct or is it repairable? :?

First up: Great site, great forum, great videos! A real find! :)
I recieved my 9X today and at first it wouldn't turn on. Then when I wiggled the wires it worked, so I think I'll just replace the battery holder seeing as I have a spektrum/JR tickle charger that I'll switch polarity on.

My quetion: Are most battery holders better quality, and no bigger than the dodgy turnigy one?

are you able to run a solder track over top of the damaged section or solder in a wire bridge between the components that the track leads to?

Placed the resistor 8.2K ohm on to the board and soldered it, but it wasn' t quite in the right place so I moved it and thats when it all went pear shaped.
The only copper track left is the bit below the larger component to the North of this problem. I was thinking of attaching the 5.1K ohm carefully to this, but the surface mount 5.1K ohm disappeared with the copper track.

PS The transmitter now seems to be working OK, with its new resistor and conversion to Frsky on board. (16 March 2011)
