FrSky Telemetry -> Bluetooth -> Android Phone: Maiden Flight

If you've been building electronic bits or modifying stuff you've bought then tell us all about it here. A good place to discuss the installation of 2.4GHz DIY modules too.

FrSky Telemetry -> Bluetooth -> Android Phone: Maiden Flight

Postby takilara » Sun Apr 10, 2011 7:56 pm

I just got back from the field. Just having tested out my Android Phone dashboard for the FrSky telemetry module.

I am just so excited it worked as planned, i had to tell someone.. (My wife didn't show the "proper" enthusiasm i feel it deserves :P)

Summary:
- DIY 6 cell LiPo voltage sensor on a T-REX 600
- Add cheap RS232-Bluetooth bridge to the FrSky Tx module
- Make android application that connect to bluetooth, parses the values, and reads them aloud to me in an earpiece.

Application is still fairly simple. (scaling and channels are currently hardcoded etc). But i now feel i have a nice framework to keep developing.
I was concerned that the BT connection might affect either of the streams to/from the helicopter, but i didn't notice any issues at all.

It was a whole lot more convenient than dragging the laptop to the field :)

Next is:
- configurable channels. (name, texts, scaling, unit, filters etc etc)
- more options for logging, including CSV logging
- Possibility to set FrSky internal alarms
- Alarms in phone
- ..

Thanks :) That was more rewarding than my wife's comment. (Oh, that's good dear) :)

I have been waiting for something like this.
Very impressive indeed.
I can`t wait to see what`s next.
The only problem I have is that there are now 2 reasons for me to buy an android device,
Your telemetry and this software http://fieldcharger.sourceforge.net/ .
The field charger software will give you a notification on your phone when the battery is full.
