Turnigy 9X LCD Backlight Kit - Blue (DIY) and the $8 battery

Hello all. One question on this kit. I am going to be using Bruce's $8 battery pack build in my Turnigy 9x. The $8 pack is about 7.4V . The LCD kit fromhobbyKing http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... _DIY_.html uses

Turnigy 9X LCD Backlight Kit - Blue (DIY)
Input Voltage: 8v - 13v
Current Draw: 60~90mA
Color: Blue

So the dilemma is the operating voltage of the LCD kit 8v - 13v vs. the $8 battery pack 7.4v. Any ideas or advice? Bruce's battery is the bees knees for sure! So what to do

I've just received one of those backlight kits so I'll make sure it works okay with the $8 battery mod. I think it should but I'll confirm.

I'll hold off on our Backlight until I hear back from either of you. I've already ordered a couple of sets of the Batteries which I'll use to mod my Eurgle and my son's Turnigy.

Hi,
I have installed this kit in my two turnigy radios with Bruce's conversion battery in one and Five Uniross Hybro batteries in the other giving about the same voltage. Both work OK but to be honest are not that bright but... if the light is so poor you can't see the display in room lighting or daylight then it does the job.
One thing I did notice was my led back-lights were not exactly the same size, one fitted in much more easily than the other I also fitted toggle switches top left of the transmitters (to match the other switches) to turn the back-light on and off, as its totally useless in daylight and a waste of power.
A tip about peeling the old foam pad off, make sure the transmitter is warm and the room temperature is 70+ f or so the pad peels much better in the warm, peel it slowly that way it comes off in one piece. When it's cold it breaks up there's a video on the web with a Canadian guy scraping it off bit by bit, took him ages don't know if he was doing it in an igloo!

I haven't tried this on the LCD foam but a general tip for peeling back tape, labels, foam pads etc is to dab a bit of isopropyl alcohol along the peel line as you go. It often frees it up altogether and where it doesn't it makes it peel back much easier. I use a cotton bud and tease the stubborn bits back with a modelling knife, not cutting just lifting.

If I get to the testing before Bruce does, I will make a video of how the Turnigy 9X LCD Backlight Kit - Blue (DIY) and the $5.09 battery looks with the 7.4v However Bruce makes a much better video. Heck pics are fine too
