Yes, when I'm teaching students to fly, the first maneuver they learn is how to turn without losing altitude.

As I say to them -- if you can't turn without losing altitude you won't be able to land because the "final" turn onto approach is usually done at relatively low altitude. If you're 80 feet up and lose 100 feet in that turn - it's game-over!

As bmsweb pointed out, most beginners tend to turn far too sharply, making it even harder not to lose height. Once you exceed a certain angle of bank, no amount of up-elevator will stop the plane from descending -- in fact it may even increase the rate of descent.

I tell students that 30 degrees of bank is the most they need to perform a turn when starting to fly.

Most newbies tend to try to fly far too tight and get them self into trouble.

Lol, that accounts for more than one of my "experiences". That and; "I've done everything I planed to do on this flight, I should land now, but I'll just try a <insert stupid showoff stunt here> before I do".

My second Clouds Fly body arrived a week ago and is pretty much built (I've taken lots of time building this one). CF II will definitely be unmodded (for a while at least) with lots of "Plan the flight, then fly the plan" (and then land you idiot!).

I actually was teaching a friend recently and I couldn't figure out for the life of me why he couldn't just bank the model and input a little up elevator. My son was the one that picked it up . . he was turning with the Rudder and not using Ailerons at all. Told him to forget the rudder for now and just focus on banking and then a little elevator and all was good.

The thing I learned from this, is when teaching someone don't assume they know to use the Ailerons. I just assumed that because he had been practicing on FMS and being an adult he would know this. Talk about failing big time as an instructor

Finally the Blitz RC Sky Surfer arrived from Banana Hobby.
Put it together with 30 mins. Woke up early the next morning
to go fly it and........ Rained all day, no poured all day with
Massive winds. That was my only day off for a while. Typical.
Oh well, more time to practice on the simulator.

Did you get it sorted, Fury? The up and down switches are oposing on my tx/tx. I didn't get anything till I remembered a posting of someone falling for the same trap.
