ER9X mixing help required

If you've been building electronic bits or modifying stuff you've bought then tell us all about it here. A good place to discuss the installation of 2.4GHz DIY modules too.

ER9X mixing help required

I just completed the mod to get 180 degrees out a hextronik HXT900 servo (the little blue 9g). Very simple but you need a steady hand to solder the two 2.2k resistors in the tiny space. Wish I had surface mount resistors. But it works :D

This 180 degree servo (channel 6) is driving the pan of the camera, original these servos are only 90 degrees or so. With this mod I can point the tilt servo (channel 8) much lower to look steep down over the side of the fuselage. Problem is that I need to bring it up to pan to the other side of the plane otherwise I will hit the canopy.

I am well and truly lost how to set-up this in the ER9X so that in a certain mid-section of the pan (C6) the tilt (C8) does not go below a certain angle.

Any takers? Many thanks.

I'm thinking custom curves might be able to do the trick.... but I dunno for sure on dat.

Plan B: Jettison the canopy?

Plan C: Grind off all the protruding bits on the camera that are getting in the way?

Sorry.. running out of ideas here..... Probably best to keep looking at those custom curves, eh.

Regards

You will need to set up a mix for the tilt channel 8, that takes the output from the pan channel 6 and uses it for a custom 9 point curve, like the one shown. Getting the logical arguments right will take a bit of fooling around and checking on the eePe simulator. I'd try it out now, but I'm having a conversation with Mrs Sid and a Mr Johnny Walker by the fire and things have become a little too, er, relaxed. ;)

Does this mean that the camera follows a curve? I still need independant tilt control: looking left and right the camera still needs to nod "yes" but in the middle section the "yes" should be less convincing.

Ah ha! I was waiting for someone to pick up on the African exotica. Alas, I was looking for Christmas midget porn and mistyped in Google. Nah, I was using StumbleUpon (great fun for surfing the net if you are not aware of it) and have no idea what that was...truly, honest your honour. ;)

OK, as for the mix. Without trying it myself it's a bit on the edge of what I am capable of so far. But, yes as the camera moves from left to right, it will follow that curve, lifting itself up above the canopy and then down again on the other side. The trick is to use the position of the pan servo to feed into the tilt servo so as to make that happen. Trouble is, as I'm over .05 right now and feel no pain, I can't do any better than that. You have to set up some logical arguments in the mixer window to accomplish that. It's not hard really, but right now it is for me.

What you could do however is send an e-mail to "richardmrazek" as he' s the guy who does all the er9x video tutorials on YouTube, including complex mixes and curves, and will no doubt be able to offer you a quicker reply than me right now.

sid is on the right track
the only thing missing is that you need a multiply mixer to make it all work (see attachment)

Right guys, I do need to put my head around this. As Sid mentioned some weeks ago, I am learning a new language here.

I need to download the eepe stuff. The smartiepants board is on its way.

I presume too time consuming to write it all down for now so I can get on with it? It is getting too late here to keep me focused.

well mostly too time consuming when opening the file in eepe will clear things up immediatelly
its fairly simple maths of multiplying an input with a curve and then multiplying that with another input when you get right down to it

also youll really want to download eepe... while the firmware functions great the user interface on the actual radio needs some work

Yessss, got it shotglass. Downloaded the eepe five minutes ago, got your "blah" inported and a picture shows a thousand words. Too easy. Anyone having ER9X, get eepe NOW.

Many thanks.
