My FPV attempt

Here's an area where you can ask any kind of question about RC models and find a whole lot of useful information to help you get started.

Ok, well still trying to work out the electronic, camera, tx/rx video on the skywalker.
Haven't had too much success. Be nice to just ship of the internals to someone who knows what they are doing.
Anyway I will keep working on it.

I have however flown my SkySurfer (AXN Floater copy).
I strapped a keychain camera to in and flew it out the back.
Did two flights and two different locations. The first was a
great learning experience and I noticed that the footage was
not very good as I made a lot of sudden turns and wasn't confident
enough to let the plane go to far away. The second was very windy
so again the footage was not great as I struggled to keep it
under control. All in all I am happy with my progress and the
plane isn't really damaged besides some small cracks and scratches.

So the plan for now is to keep working on the skywalkers internals,
getting the visuals working, while I keep practising on the SkySurfer
and the simulator. I as so happy that I did get the simulator to practice
on as I believe it has saved me a bunch of money as I would have
crashed my plane for sure.

Great too see you're out there flying. I'm slowly putting some FPV gear together, which was my original plan, but now I find I'm having a lot of fun just flying the plane around different local parks. Getting over the initial nerves is a big leap, it gets easier with every flight.

Here's my latest flight at Dobroyd Point this afternoon. It was very windy, I had to give my AXN around 60% throttle just to move forwards. I usually just float around at about 25%.

So good to see you guys getting into it with the AXN.

Nice watching the video rogueqd, despite the wind...the view was great btw.

Isn't it a very forgiving plane, even in hairy conditions, and once you get past the nerves and fly the plane with a bit more experience instead of feeling like it's flying you (and the confidence that brings) it really rewards you by being surprisingly versatile; from a fun slope soarer, to a thermal glider when there is sufficient lift (I had mine up soaring on Sunday and despite the lift being patchy, stayed up for quite a while, with only the occasional touch of throttle to get out of sink)...and when you let her rip it gives you lots of thrills as a respectably agile aerobatic model, with a fair bit of speed.

A fun plane indeed, and thanks to Bruce for putting me onto it.
What goes up...better bloody stay up (until I say otherwise).

Wanted to go out again today, since I have this week of from work.
Extremely windy though, and rain expected. Will keep an eye on the
weather while charging up the batteries and playing on the flight sim.

My goal at this stage is to get some footage that is more stable.
Can't wait to show off the area I"m in. The Dandenong Ranges, Vic, Aus

Good luck with the weather. I've just got back from a nice morning's flying; got to take advantage of still days in Spring here.

Btw, the Dandenongs are great...I spent my teen years in Kilsyth and lived in Emerald when I was at Monash uni. :D

Yeah, I'm in Emerald. Just moved up here from Melbourne about 7 weeks ago.
Looks like Cardinia Reservoir will be great for FPV once I get the hang of it.
When I get the Skywalker up and running then I want to get some height to
have a good look from up there.

Ha! Cardinia Reservoir was just down the end of the road from my place on Kilvington Drive. I used to take my German Shepherd for a walk there.

The backyard at my place in Emerald back then (just happened to have it on Photobucket). That was taken way back in 1977. My 1950 Matchless 500 and a '66 Jag S type (complete with ding from when Mrs Sid dropped a hot pie in her lap and ran into a ditch).
