RX/TX Range

Hey Gang

Well I'm hooked. I have been absolutely been stung by the RC bug. Particularly FPV. I have been reading everything I can find on the subject. What's even better is I've found somewhere to post my questions. :) Out of all my research one thing keeps eluding me. What range should I expect from my RX/TX. I understand that a number of factors can affect this. It's just that if I'm to expect 1-2 KM from my video system (using a patch antenna) what's the point if my RX/TX will only manage 0.5 KM? More importantly, I don't want to loose control of my aircraft while still having video (too heartbreaking).

I found the following on http://www.rcexplorer.se/projects/fpveasystar/fpv.html. If you scroll halfway down the page David touches on a TX modification to increase range. I would love some more detail as to how to do this. Alternatively, if anyone could make any suggestions that would be fantastic.

Kind Regards

Jason
