Corona 2.4Ghz DIY strange rang behavior

If you've been building electronic bits or modifying stuff you've bought then tell us all about it here. A good place to discuss the installation of 2.4GHz DIY modules too.

Corona 2.4Ghz DIY strange rang behavior

Postby seedo » Wed Oct 26, 2011 12:16 pm

Dear Members

i updated my Futaba EX4 transmitter with the Corona 2.4Ghz DIY Module & RX (DSSS), everything seems good but i noticed 2 strange things:

1- the range is not more than 400m and the manual says more than 1500m

2- when i direct the plane to specific direction it either get out of range or get bad latency.

I fly in a very open area in the desert.

why i have range problem? :(

Thank you

for maximum range try to get the antennas parallel to each other and perpendicular to the line from TX to RX

check for aliens

I got about 800m with corona v.1 with power lines and wifi nearby

i was wondering if there is a factory defect or i did something wrong while installing it, cuz i remember bruce review in youtube about finding something wrong with the corona but what is it exactly?

If you are flying alone (away from all other transmitters) it should be fine, slow booting, I think was one of the faults.

corona has three incompatible systems, DSSS v.1, DSSS v.2, FHSS
I looked it up, FHSS (the latest) had issues http://www.rcmodelreviews.com/coronafhssissues.shtml
DSSS v.2 http://www.rcmodelreviews.com/corona_dsssv2.shtml

well i opened the antenna table and i solder some more for the wire, i got 100m more so in total now i have 400, but still i didn't get the 1.5km that corona promised :(, i also fix the receiver antenna wires so they point up and i don't have latency anymore, but still wonder y only 400m i have!?

I had the same problem using Frsy DIY module in that TX.

Make sure that the antenna connector has enough thread showint to make a good connection to the antenna when you screw it on.
I filed the top of the TX so that more thread extended through and the problem was solved.
