Hi All,
Firstly - thanks to Bruce for providing this forum and the marvellous indepth information. As a newbie, its been invaluable and i promise i'll take back all those nasty things i said about New Zealanders after you beat us Aussies in the World Cup!
So i've been reading and watching a heap of information about the Turnigy 9x and the various DIY extensions/alterations that can be made to improve the base functionality/capabilities. I'd be really interseted to get feedback from those that have completed the various extensions as to which is the more complex and more worthwhile.
For those that choose to provide feedback, would you mind rating the steps i've suggested (or any others that you think worth including in teh mix) according to the following triplet (A - pilot level at which it becomes useful, B - usefulness, C - complexity). A would be ranked novice, intermediate, advanced, expert, B would be ranked 1 - 10 with 1 being a waste of time & 10 being the best thing since sliced bread, C would be ranked 1 - 10 with 1 being "a trained monkey could do this mod" & 10 being "you need a PhD in electronics to do this".
So my thoughts on a DIY evolutionary path would be as follows:
1. Purchase the stock standard Turnigy 9X (A - all, B - 7, C - 1)
2. Purchase the USB connector for simulator usage (A - all, B - 9, C - 1) : http://www.dealextreme.com/p/usb-2-0-al ... ngle-51480
3. Make the DIY modification to allow buddy boxing (addition of 1K resistor across track 6) - (A - novice, B - 6, C - 3)
4. Make the DIY modification to change to FrSky Tx/Rx as per Bruce's youtube video (A - all, B - 8, C - 5)
NB. Any comments as to whether or not the telemetry compatible option as being sold on Hobby King is preferable for future upgrade path and whether this is to be fitted the same way as per Bruce's instructions? Part options seem to be either 14353 FFrSky V8HT 2.4Ghz DIY Module or 17205 FFrSky DHT 8ch DIY Telemetry Compatible Transmitter Module
5. Find a willing instructor and go fly a lot
6. Make teh DIY modification to allow use of custom software (eg ER9X) as per http://www.smartieparts.com/shop/index. ... 3b43dd7d0d (A - intermediate+, B - 4, C - 6)
Any comments or other projects or modifications worth considering?
Thanks
Peter
