So who's doing this reviewing then?
Well I've been building and flying or driving radio controlled models for over 40 years and during that time I like to think I've built up a reasonable amount of knowledge.
I'm also a qualified electronics engineer who has worked in radio frequency, analog, digital systems and software for more than three decades. In fact I designed and built my first RC set back in 1969.
For the past nine years I've also been involved in the design and manufacture of some rather sophisticated engine technology and UAV flight control systems.
So, chances are I've been there, done that and have a huge pile of tee shirts to prove it.
Right now I'm heavily into 3D flying and enjoy all aspects of the RC hobby. I may be old but I don't feel it.

WHAT? A 2.4GHZ RADIO SYTEM FOR UNDER $30?
First there was the iMax 9X, a 9-channel 2.4GHz radio system out of china that sells for a fraction the price of any equivalent radio from the big name brands.
And now there's a new four-channel radio on 2.4GHz that looks set to establish an even lower benchmark price -- less than $30.
The Hobby King 2.4GHz radio looks set to topple the dominance of low-cost 4-channel sets such as the Futaba SkySport, the Hitec Laser 4 and other "no frills" RC systems that have previously addressed the bottom end of the market. It is certainly the cheapest RC system I've seen to date.
If you're after features, this isn't the radio for you.
There are no dual rates, no mixing, no expo, no fancy LCD, in fact there's nothing but four basic channels.
It's obviously this simplicity that allows the Chinese to make and retail these things for less than the price of a good meal.
Note also that the HK 2.4 radio doesn't come with some of the other frills you get with other systems. There are no servos, no batteries, not even a receiver switch and harness.
Just the transmitter and receiver -- or should I say "receivers".
That's because the airborne part of this system includes two receivers that function together to provide the diversity that ensures a more reliable radio link and less chances of momentary dropouts due to the reflections and signal blockages that can affect simpler systems.

How come there's no compatibility between different brands of transmitters and receivers? Why can't you use a cheap Chinese receiver with your Futaba FASST radio?
